To my delight, the first season of Titans really set the bar for what a mature DC Comics-based series can achieve. Actually, Doom Patrol has since raised it, but I’m confident our favorite group of younger superheroes can outdo themselves in their second go-round.
Of course, in order to do that, the show will need to keep things fresh and continue introducing other characters from the comic book world. Superboy is one of these, having already been teased in a post-credits scene at the tail end of the unforgettable season finale. And seeing as how a stuntman had been hired to stand in for the nude lad, it was only a matter of time before the actor set to carry the torch be formally cast.
So, now that we’ve seen Superboy’s ass, I guess we’re due to see his face. As it turns out, Joshua Orpin (Upright, The Neon Spectrum) has been enlisted to play the icon, and is described as follows:
“Superboy, aka Conner Kent, is the angsty teenager of steel searching for purpose and the truth about his past. While looking for answers, he crashes into the world of the Titans where he finds an unlikely home and surrogate family as well as revelations that carry more complications than he ever bargained for.”
If indeed the producers adhere close to the source material, then it’s going to be hard not incorporating Lex Luthor into the show. Don’t forget, Conner was created from DNA coming from both Superman and Luthor, which is actually the most important detail when discussing his origin.
With Titans‘ second season set to begin shooting in the very near future, it shouldn’t be much longer before we find out who’ll be playing Deathstroke, the next big bad to be encountered. As always, keep watching this space for more.
