‘Trust no one’: A certain ‘Secret Invasion’ star is doing a very good job of convincing us they’re a Skrull

Of all the possibilities, this one could have the most jaw-dropping implications.

We’re merely a handful of days away from the premiere of Secret Invasion, the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries that looks all but ready to shatter everything we think we might know about this illustrious mythos, and we’re not just talking about the tongue-in-cheek comic book tone that the series seems hellbent on snapping over its knee in favor of a far grittier political thriller.

Indeed, the MCU we know has, so far, been entirely absent from what we’ve seen of Secret Invasion thus far. Beyond just about every character, including protagonist and longtime MCU icon Nick Fury, seemingly shouldering a morally grey agenda throughout the series, Secret Invasion could end up being the site of some earth-shattering revelations regarding the identities of some fan-favorite heroes.

Simply put, we don’t know who we can trust anymore, and it seems like Don Cheadle recognizes a nerve-striking opportunity when he sees one, and now Rhodey (aka War Machine) is top of our list of Skrull suspects.

During the recent Secret Invasion Red Carpet, Cheadle reiterated the mindset that we should all be harboring as we draw closer to the series’ premiere (specifically, “trust no one”), before slowly backing away from the camera with the single most suspicious glaze in his eye we’ve ever seen.

Of course, it’s likely that Cheadle was just selling the Secret Invasion ethos rather than actually alluding to anything, but on the other hand, perhaps that’s exactly what he wants us all to think.

The first episode of Secret Invasion will release to Disney Plus on June 21, with following episodes releasing on a weekly basis until the series finale on July 26.
