Tensions are going to be incredibly high when Tyrant returns for its sophomore season. I have to say that one of the conflicts I’m looking forward to seeing play out the most is the relationship between Molly and her sister. That is one chick fight that is going to escalate to a level of drama that viewers haven’t seen on this show before. Jenna (Wrenn Schmidt) has now put Emma (Anne Winter) and Sammy (Noah Silver) in completely unnecessary danger, an offense I doubt Molly is going to forgive any more than Jamal is going to change his mind about executing Hakim.
It was clear that whether Barry’s plan to overthrow his brother succeeded or not, his family would still be in some potential danger. Yet, being stranded on essentially an island in the middle of enemy territory wasn’t a consideration during the planning process. It presents a whole new set of challenges to consider, and for the writers to contend with, while talking Barry out of the death penalty. Finally, and it took them all season, it seems that there’s at least a partial plan for Emma and Sammy within the larger scheme of things.
Obviously, Barry’s life is hanging in the balance. Since he’s the main character, viewers probably aren’t too worried about Jamal actually going through with his threat. What will be the most compelling part, of at least the first few episodes, is how Jamal decides to deal with this ultimate betrayal from the person who he arguably values most. I wouldn’t be surprised if when he finds out the details of what Barry actually intended to do, including what the fate of himself and his family would have been had the coup ran its course, if he decided to be more merciful.
