Daredevil: Born Again star Vincent D’Onofrio seems to be vying for the most accessible MCU character of all time this week. The Kingpin actor has reached out to fans about the upcoming series not once but twice, and his latest response seems to indicate that he’s ready and willing to accept the tonal shift that will come from moving the Daredevil franchise from Netflix to Disney Plus.

D’Onofrio recently reached out to a fan regarding the upcoming series production dates, telling them that though shooting hasn’t started yet, the series is in” glorious prep” mode. Today, the Criminal Intent star commented on the same thread assuring another fan that the new show was “brand new,'” “smart,” and “very very cool.” However, quality assurance aside, he also freely admitted that fans shouldn’t expect the same experience they might have had with the three seasons of Daredevil that ran from 2015 to 2017 on Netflix.

Born Again will be “very different than the Netflix show which was as we know was amazing [sic]” D’Onofrio qualified. A change in tone is hardly surprising. The original Netflix series is by far one of the grittiest and most hyper-violent Marvel properties ever seen and it was fairly inevitable that certain qualities were going to get nerfed to make the characters fit more comfortably into the comparatively kinder and gentler Disney MCU.

That said, if the show maintains the quality we’ve seen glimpses of since both the Kingpin and Daredevil entered the official MCU canon. Fans can expect to see a Wilson Fisk similar to what was seen in Disney Plus’ Hawkeye series and the Daredevil that was seen in She-Hulk. They probably shouldn’t hold their breaths waiting for another scene as intense (and disturbing) as the car door scene from Daredevil season one.
