Warner Bros. is out here openly spoiling ‘Abbott Elementary’s’ biggest moment but can you blame them?

It finally happened!

The “will they won’t they” sitcom storyline is a tale as old as time. Jim and Pam from The Office, Sam and Diane from Cheers, Joe Biden and stairs – they all keep us glued to our TVs and on the edge of our chairs. Now it’s Abbot Elementary‘s time to shine.

This sitcom cliche was once again trotted out for the mega-hit ABC show, with viewers enthralled with the relationship between young teachers Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams) on the show. They’ve come close a few times but it never happened.

Until it did. How do we know? Well, the official Twitter account for Warner Bros. TV spoiled it for us. In a short clip, we see the two lovebirds in a flower shop. Clumsy Teagues drops some stuff on the floor and the two duck to stay out of sight. With a flower in her hands, she tells him to “smell this one it smells so good” and he goes in for the kiss.

It happens! Then she pulls him in for more. They also attached a gif of Mr. Johnson the janitor (William Stanford Davis) holding a cat and saying, “the plot thickens.” Was it worth the wait? That’s for you to decide but generally after characters get together like that the show is never the same.

Not that that’s what will happen here but still, history isn’t on their side. Take a look.

However, producers seem to know that getting these two together will dampen some of the show’s narrative juice, so they hedge the moment in the show, according to Entertainment Weekly.

They both tell the “documentary crew” that they got caught up in the moment. It looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for this relationship to blossom. Even producer Justin Halpern said he didn’t want the romance to take flight just yet, and that in season two she was going to remain single.

“We are going to see single Janine. The three of us have talked about [how] wherever we end up we want it to feel completely earned. Wherever we get to, we promise you will feel like that is satisfactory.”

Williams, who plays Gregory, said that his feelings for Janine were tied to his decision that he was going to teach rather than be a principal.

“They go hand in hand for him. That’s what I like about that relationship and that choice for him, is that it gives me a reason to push him through obstacles. But yeah, he’s going to have to really grapple with the dream deferred at some point. This is not what he intended to see for his life. At some point, he’s going to have to either settle into this or continue to drive toward that.”

Abbot Elementary airs Wednesdays on ABC and is also streaming on Hulu and HBO Max.
