It can only be the 2018 Governors Award presentation, which recognized the pioneering saga as a “visionary science-fiction television franchise and its legacy of boldly propelling science, society, and culture where no one has gone before.”

Two weeks ago, we brought you the news that Star Trek was in line to receive the prestigious Governors Award, and now, a 12-minute video has been released, one in which Nye recounts the Trek legacy, before Shatner steps on stage to collect the award and wax lyrical about what makes this franchise so special – even after so many years of top-tier content across various platforms.

Unfortunately, the video can’t be embedded, but you can watch all 12 minutes of the TV Academy’s honorary presentation over on Emmys.com.

It’s certainly worth checking out, as it’s heartening to see William Shatner speak so highly of Star Trek despite the fact that he hasn’t been too involved in the franchise during recent years.

That could all change very soon, though, as the Trek legend recently conceded that he’d be willing to reprise the role of Captain James T. Kirk on one condition – if the story warranted his return, rather than pandering to fan service. The same can also be said about Patrick Stewart, another series stalwart, who will soon be headlining his own Star Trek show as the inimitable Jean-Luc Picard.

Details of his long-anticipated return are practically non-existent at this point, but with Alex Kurtzman (Discovery) overseeing things for CBS, we’re quietly confident in the show’s ability to succeed. And go boldly where no one has gone before…
