Sitcoms are full of running jokes and one of the longest-going and most infuriating for fans comes from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
From season one a particular waitress becomes the girl of Charlie’s dreams. Despite us seeing him fail to capture her heart on so many occasions, one thing we don’t see is any indication as to who exactly she is.
Sounds strange right? A major character who has several appearances but is simply referred to as ‘the waitress.’ As you’d expect, fans have scoured all of the archives looking for any shred of information as to who she really is, and here’s what they’ve got.
Who is the waitress in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia?
The good news is, yes, the waitress does have a name. The bad news, it’s never been revealed.
Over the 16-season run of the show, there have been plenty of theories and ideas thrown out there as to what exactly the waitress’s real name is, but none of these have been confirmed. In fact, the most popular was officially shut down by Dennis himself.
During season seven speculation peaked that the waitress was in fact Nikki Potnick after the episode “The High School Reunion.” During the episode, Frank steals a nametag for this person and later the waitress who isn’t wearing one says that they didn’t have one for her. Of course, this was all the fuel fans needed to definitively call her Nikki, but Glenn Howerton has other things to say.
Howerton who plays Dennis and writes the series said on social media that no, Nikki is not the waitress’s name, and that as of right now it has not been shared. His tweet did taunt fans further though mentioning that she does in fact have a name.
It seems this will continue to be one of those mysteries that we will never know. However, perhaps when the series is ready to come to an end we’ll finally find out exactly who this not-so-mystery woman truly is.
For some closure, you can put a name to this character. That’s the name of actress Mary Elizabeth Ellis who has played her since the very beginning of the show.
