Marvel Studios’ first three Phase Four TV series are barnstorming successes that expand the MCU into a whole new direction. Marvel fans are already used to a constant stream of small-screen content, so with the Loki finale having hit Disney Plus today, many will be wondering what the next MCU series is, and how soon will it arrive.
The answers to these questions are “What If…?” and “in less than a month’s time.” Here’s what you need to know.
What is What If…?
The first ever animated production to come from Marvel Studios, What If…? is an anthology show that will check in on a different alternate reality across 10 episodes. From what we’ve seen so far, one of these parallel Earths will make some kind of sense—Peggy Carter as Captain Britain? Yeah, that adds up—while others will be totally off-the-wall. Want to see Black Panther as Star-Lord? Sure, why not!
What If…? will feature a huge range of MCU stars reprising their iconic roles, including Chris Hemsworth, Hayley Atwell, Josh Brolin, Karen Gillan, Jeff Goldblum and the much-missed Chadwick Boseman, making the series his final turn as T’Challa. Unfortunately, there will be some big names absent from the show, including Brie Larson, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., who will all be replaced by other voice actors. Jeffrey Wright will narrate each episode as Uatu the Watcher.
Unlike Phase Four’s one-off TV hit WandaVision, What If…? is an ongoing series. A second season is already in the works. It’s clear Marvel knew what they were doing when they scheduled this one after Loki, as its multiversal plotline neatly introduced the concept to audiences before What If…? really runs with it.
Don’t miss What If…? when it premieres Wednesday, Aug. 11th on Disney Plus.
