Yet Law and Order SVU‘s Christopher Meloni seems to like to save the drama for the streets of New York as he and his wife Sherman Williams have not only been together for over two decades but also appear more in love than ever. Celebrities marrying outside of the Hollywood celebrity dating pool is rare, so who exactly is this Hollywood non-starlet who swept Chris Meloni off his feet? We did a little digging to find out. Doris “Sherman” Williams is a New York City native, born in the big apple in 1960. She is a production designer and art director with an extensive resume, even pre-marriage to Mr. Meloni. She has worked on such high-profile sets as Platoon, The Chase, and Automatic. In fact, that is how the two met, all the way back in 1989. Sherman reportedly pulled up to set on her motorcycle, spiky platinum blonde hair and all, and Chris was intrigued, reportedly saying “This, I gotta meet” according to Country Living Magazine. While the two hit it off immediately, it would be two years before they began dating, and six before they would become husband and wife.

The two married in 1995 in a medieval-themed wedding on a beach in Malibu because – why not? The couple had slightly varying opinions on where they should live post-nuptials, as Chris, much like his beloved character Elliot Stabler, loves the streets of New York while Sherman much preferred the LA sunshine. Yet the couple finally settled on a cozy apartment settled in a New York City high-rise. In fact, the apartment was so cozy, it was featured in Architectural Digest in 2017. The home also features some of Sherman’s own artwork as she is a painter. Her website features some of her most impressive pieces and puts her wide range of artistic abilities on display. In the interview with AD, Chris reports he is his wife’s “biggest fan.” Aww.

Despite being in the heart of the Hollywood spotlight, the two have remained in love for over two decades. When asked their secret to success, Chris responded to YourTango saying “We just like each other…Space, respect, trust, and freedom…We laugh a lot.” In fact, Chris recently posted a gushing tribute to his wife and her “hot in heels” look for her 63rd birthday.
