Will Moff Gideon return in season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian?’

There's no love lost between Mando and the Moff.

The world is firmly back on the Mandalorian train as of today, with the endorphin-inducing duo of Din Djarin and young Grogu blasting off on a brand-new mission to redeem Din after he committed the obviously-heinous transgression of removing his helmet to let his adoptive son look him in the eye before saying goodbye.

Said goodbye, of course, didn’t last very long, mostly because The Mandalorian‘s creative team knew that removing Grogu would be akin to losing unthinkable amounts of free real estate with regards to their fanbase, but also because Grogu just loves his dad that much.

But, as the heroes set off on their quest, there’s one man who just might be looking to make that goodbye a touch more permanent, and it’s non other than Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon, the Imperial remnant commander and former wielder of the Darksaber before Din seized it from him during the events of the second season – which was only the latest in a long line of disruptions that no doubt fed Gideon’s drive for revenge on him and Grogu.

It’s more-or-less guaranteed that the Moff will continue to be an on-screen thorn in the side of our heroes during the third season; Esposito is confirmed to co-star in the series as the antagonist, although questions still remain on exactly which episode he’ll be making his return in.

Furthermore, Esposito confirmed in an interview with ComicBook.com back in 2021, prior to the filming of season three, that Gideon would be back and as deadly as ever for round three, and it sounds like he’ll be all in on making Din and Grogu’s lives as difficult as possible.

The Mandalorian is available to stream on Disney Plus, with new episodes of the third season releasing every Wednesday until the season’s conclusion on April 19.
