With the Arrowverse officially over, its single most insane moment deserves to be singled out

There's lots to pick from, but only one clear winner.

When it comes to any property that even evokes the spirit of a comic book, a good rule of thumb is to create parameters that could result in the most ridiculous statements you can think of. Indeed, from “he had to eat a caterpillar in order to defeat the superpowered crime syndicate” to “her cat managed to slaughter an elite military unit,” the plot beats don’t get more off-the-chain than superhero properties.

And while there’s typically not much wiggle room in terms of ranking these nuances by their sheer lunacy, the end of the Arrowverse – marked by the final episode of The Flash having aired yesterday – demands a special occasion where we crown the king of craziness. And according to Twitter, the race isn’t even close.

Only in the Arrowverse serials could a teenage Barack Obama be the subject of an important Legends of Tomorrow plot point where Gorilla Grodd tries to murder him in order to create a rupture in time that would weaken the primordial time lord he’s currently serving. Even by comic book standards, that sentence threatens to defy comprehension.

As one could imagine, it didn’t take long for the memes to start rolling in.

Thankfully, Obama was rescued by the Legends shortly after he was attacked, allowing the timeline to live another day, which we sadly can’t say about the Arrowverse. We’re going to miss this particular brand of shenanigans from this continuity, even if James Gunn’s incoming DC Universe promises a bright tomorrow.

Let us not cry because it’s over; let’s instead smile that a teenage Obama surviving an attack from a psychic gorilla happened.
