‘Yellowjackets’ breaks massive Showtime streaming record with its season 2 return

It's back!

The Showtime breakout hit Yellowjackets is back and back in a big way. The survival horror show recently aired the first episode of its second season, and it instantly became Showtime’s most-streamed premiere ever.

The episode debuted on March 26 and netted almost 2 million viewers, per Variety. The episode was also the network’s best season two premiere for any show in a decade, and it had almost double the audience of the first season premiere. This means the show is only getting more popular.

Chris McCarthy, the president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios & Paramount Media Networks, said the sparkling debut was due to creators Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco and the “extraordinary ensemble cast.” Season two will go to “even greater heights.”

“By tapping into our proven strategy of promoting series across our full portfolio of brands at Paramount Media Networks, we successfully broadened the reach and brought new viewers into this incredible series that deftly combines psychological horror, dark comedy and coming-of-age drama.”

In the first season, we got to know the Yellowjackets as as they tried to figure out how they were going to survive in the forest after a terrible plane crash. The show features two different timelines, with adult versions of the characters dealing with the aftermath many years later.

The show has been so successful for the network that it’s already greenlit season three and given Lyle and Nickerson an overall deal, per The New York Times.

Yellowjackets streams every Friday and will air on Showtime on Sundays.
