It arrives in tandem with the extended sneak peak at season 4, episode 2, as Agents Coulson and May begin to zero in on a strategy to overhaul S.H.I.E.L.D.’s public image. Doing so won’t be easy, of course, but while you wait patiently to “Meet the New Boss,” this snippet above champions season 4 to be a “sexier [and] grittier” thrill ride than seasons gone by. It also gives us some indication into how critics are reacting to the new season and, at least based on these accolades, the general consensus is certainly positive.

Perhaps more than anything, AMC’s decision to move its superhero series to a later timeslot likely afforded the writers more creative agency when dabbling with adult-oriented fare. This, coupled with the advent of Gabriel Luna’s Ghost Rider (Spirit of Vengeance) all but steered Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. out of PG-13 territory. By and large, season 4 is off to a strong start, too, with our review pointing to the tonal shake-up. That’s something that will no doubt continue to develop tomorrow evening, as Quake’s anticipated rematch with Ghost Rider takes center stage.

“Meet The New Boss” will race onto television screens tomorrow at 10:00 PM ET on ABC. Tell us, have you been tuning in to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4? And if so, how do you think this latest batch of episodes stake up in comparison to their predecessors? Do let us know.
