Did you know that NBC was making a four-part miniseries adaptation of Rosemary’s Baby with Zoe Saldana in the Mia Farrow role? Well, I certainly didn’t, but today we have our first look at the actress sporting the famous haircut while pregnant with the infamous baby.

Saldana takes on the part (and the hairdo) that Mia Farrow made famous in Roman Polanski’s adaptation of Ira Levin’s horror novel. She’s Rosemary Woodhouse, a young wife who has just moved into a brand new apartment with her husband (Patrick J. Adams of Suits fame) and becomes pregnant in a rather disturbing way. Rosemary soon begins to suspect that her husband and their bizarre neighbors are plotting something more than devilish for herself and her unborn child. The action this time will take place in Paris, replacing New York City and the notorious Dakota Building where the original film was set.

It’s quite a challenge to make a miniseries of such an iconic horror story, especially when the original film remains one of the finest works of horror ever made. Certainly Saldana’s look in these new photos references the film, as she wears the exact same pixie-cut that Farrow wore in the part. Hopefully the miniseries will go its own way, however, and not try to approximate the bizarre, absurdist, and slightly humorous take on a tale of terror that can only come from the camera of Roman Polanski. The miniseries format might allow for director Agnieszka Holland (Treme, The Killing) to expand on events in the original novel, and draw out some of the horror that a two-hour film just cannot do. Still, it’s a tall order and will inevitably be compared with Polanski’s film.

Check out the first few photos from EW (via Bleeding Cool) below and let us know what you think. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on when NBC sets a premiere date for Rosemary’s Baby.
