Love Is Love Successfully Raises $165K For Pulse Nightclub Massacre Victims

As much as we'd love to have superheroes here in the real world to help us through the darkest of times, we have to accept that it's unfortunately not going to happen. Still, that doesn't mean these characters can't inspire, effectively bringing out the best in us when our fellow man needs us most. Thankfully, this notion isn't lost on the talented people who currently bring these icons to life, thus bringing about Love is Love.

As much as we’d love to have superheroes here in the real world to help us through the darkest of times, we have to accept that it’s unfortunately not going to happen. Still, that doesn’t mean these characters can’t inspire, effectively bringing out the best in us when our fellow man needs us most. Thankfully, this notion isn’t lost on the talented people who currently bring these icons to life, thus bringing about Love is Love.

Those who are reading this, especially those living in the United States, no doubt remember the Pulse nightclub massacre that took place in Orlando, Florida, which had to be one of 2016’s most publicized tragedies. Knowing that the comics industry is no stranger to raising money for those who have suffered through something unimaginable (Superstorm Sandy immediately comes to mind), writer Marc Andreyko – with the help of IDW Publishing’s Sarah Gaydos and DC Entertainment’s Jamie S. Rich – rounded up some of his field’s top talent in order to benefit those affected by the incident at Pulse.

Before they knew it, heavyweights such as Grant Morrison, Gail Simone, Jim Lee, Paul Dini, Amanda Conner, Scott Snyder, Tom King, Brian Michael Bendis, Steve Orlando, Cat Staggs, Kieron Gillen, Mark Millar, Marguerite Bennett, Phil Jimenez, David Mack, Brad Meltzer, Taran Killam, Patton Oswalt, Damon Lindelof, Morgan Spurlock and Matt Bomer were on board, bringing some of comics’ most recognizable characters to life in the standalone graphic novel.

Andreyko had this to say:

“I am overwhelmed by the response to Love is Love. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that this project would not only raise so much money, but touch so many lives around the globe. In these divisive and difficult times, seeing the outpouring of love and support for victims of hate by people of every race, creed, orientation and nationality shows me that there is much good in the world. We just need to keep fighting the good fight and love will win.”

That said, IDW is pleased to confirm that Love is Love has successfully raised more than $165,000 for those affected, with copies of the fourth printing to be donated to Equality Florida as fundraising items. Not surprisingly, the book will soon receive a fifth printing.
