Yesterday brought word that Insomniac Games and Sony were pushing ahead with a big-screen rendition of Ratchet & Clank, and they announced a rather stellar voice cast to prove it. With Sylvester Stallone, Rosario Dawson and the like lending their dulcet tones to Insomniac’s colorful cast of characters, there’s now a palpable buzz of excitement surrounding the animation ahead of its debut in 2016.

However, in order to coincide with the feature, Sony has opted to postpone the PlayStation 4 reboot of the series into the early stages of next year, but assured fans of the loveable, gun-toting pair that such a delay will allow the developer to experiment with “spectacular” new gameplay segments. According to Ryan Schneider, Chief Brand Officer at Insomniac Games, the studio is exploring ways to reimagine the R&C formula with new space-faring adventures, locales and of course, bizarre weaponry.

While you might have to wait a bit longer than expected, rest assured we’re using the time wisely to further polish the game to a spit-shine level, with dazzling shader response, awe-inspiring effects, velvety smooth animations, and spectacular new gameplay segments. Really, we can’t wait to show it to you.

Of course, the fact that this will act as the first Ratchet & Clank title to be released on PlayStation 4 will no doubt necessitate the prolonged development window, and we can’t wait to see the kind of physics-defying arsenal that Insomniac cooks up in time for early 2016.

We’ll keep you posted on the status of Ratchet & Clank‘s PS4 debut along with the adjacent feature film. Until then, tell us, are you anticipating the pair’s second coming? Let us know below.
