Lady Palutena Lights Up The Battlefield As Newest Addition To Super Smash Bros. Wii U And 3DS

Nintendo’s digging deeper into the back catalogue for new Smash Bros. participants, as Kid Icarus’s Lady Palutena is the latest fighter that will be available on both Super Smash Bros. Wii U and Super Smash Bros. 3DS. Providing a pugilistic bookend to the day’s earlier announcement of Miis entering the fray, Palutena is a more traditional addition to the roster, and showing off her varied moveset makes up the majority of this latest Smash trailer.

Anime fans/fan fiction nerds will enjoy the highly-detailed animated battle that introduces Palutena to the mix, but Smash diehards will want to check out the gameplay footage that focuses squarely on how the Goddess of Light will play. Using a combination of area-of-effect melee moves and long-distance projectiles, Palutena looks to combine the mobility of Kid Icarus’ Pit with tricky counters and ranged attacks. With a final smash that follows up a screen-filling black hole with a giant death laser, chances are you’ll want to keep Palutena as far away from wandering smash balls as possible.

It won’t be long until you can play as Palutena on Super Smash Bros. 3DS, which launches October 3rd, 2014. You’ll have to wait until holiday 2014 for the character to make her Wii U debut though, but the trailer below will give you a sampling of what to expect from Nintendo’s latest free-for-all.
