On the heels of his work on While We’re Young and Mistress America, prolific director Noah Baumbach has been quietly nudging his latest project toward production, and we now have an indication of its core cast.
Entitled Yen Din Ka Kissa (or, The Story Of The Day in Hindi), Baumbach’s family drama has welcomed aboard Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson. The kicker is that, much like the director’s other secretive projects, filming is already underway on the streets of New York City, and the early synopsis pitches the feature as so: “The film tells the story of an estranged New York family coming together in preparation of artist & patriarch Harold’s career retrospective.”
Set photos acquired via The Film Stage confirmed Baumbach’s ensemble, and though it’s yet to be announced officially, Grace Van Patten of Boardwalk Empire fame was also spotted among the production. Chatting with USA Today, Emma Thompson noted her character is a “dreadful, passive-aggressive alcoholic,” though at the time the outlet cited the film’s title as The Meyerowitz Stories.
Whether it’s called Yen Din Ka Kissa or The Meyerowitz Stories, Noah Baumbach’s latest is shaping up to be a tricky butterfly to pin. Nevertheless, the nuclear cast at the crux of the movie – particularly the surprise addition of Adam Sandler – is enough to pique our interest in what the director is cooking up.
