It was arguably one of the more intriguing subplots to arise from Entertainment Weekly’s extensive coverage of Avengers: Infinity War – that being the shot of sorcerers (Doctor Strange, Wong) forging an alliance with scientists (Iron Man, Hulk).

Together, they form Marvel’s science bros, a subset of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with brains to burn and more intellect than the last 22 crusaders combined. Of course, if you’ve been keeping track of Infinity War since its inception, you’ll know that those four MCU characters – played by Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Ruffalo, and Benedict Wong – were spotted having lunch together between takes, though it’s only now that we’re beginning to see the fruits of their labor.

Speaking of which, Downey Jr. was on-hand to discuss what it was like to work alongside Cumberbatch, whose Doctor Strange is still in control of the sought-after Time Stone.

I love how Cumberbatch just comes in and kind of draws flaming circles anywhere and can basically step into your movie. That’s fun. And we wanted to keep a little bit of the Science Bros thing alive, even though Ruffalo has been on such an amazing Banner/Hulk journey himself. I really, really, really enjoyed getting to know and work with and play around with Benedict as Strange. Benedict Wong also, by the way, is fantastic.

It’s one of six cosmic ingots to be featured in Avengers: Infinity War, and we know that the Soul Stone (whereabouts unknown) may well be the most dangerous one of them all.

As for Iron Man and his new-fangled super-group, it’ll be anchored by two incredibly intelligent, and somewhat egotistical figureheads in Tony Stark and Stephen Strange, and we simply can’t wait to watch that relationship unfurl on the big screen.

Marvel’s four science bros will come together to fend off Thanos and his invading army when Avengers: Infinity War opens worldwide on April 27th – one week earlier than initially expected.
