The battle lines are drawn in the first wave of bitter-cold character posters for Underworld: Blood Wars, the fantasy sequel in the works from director Anna Foerster.

Welcoming Selene and Co. in from the cold, Movie Pilot was the first to premiere the icy one-sheets, placing Kate Beckinsale’s undead heroine front and center, all the while spotlighting some of the key supporting players lining the ranks of Foerster’s blockbuster. Charles Dance, for instance, returns as the glowering Thomas, a “vampire who betrays Selene by offering her daughter Eve to the Lycans.” There’s also the introduction of his unruly son David (Theo James) and Marius, the newfound leader of the Lycans played by Tobias Menzies, who also has a history on Game of Thrones after portraying Edmure Tully on HBO’s flagship series.

As Movie Pilot notes, these stylish posters emerge on the eve of New York Comic-Con getting underway, where fans will be able to pick up a limited edition Blood Wars poster. There’s also the very real prospect of a new trailer reveal, too, something we’ve been saying for the likes of John Wick: Chapter Two, Power Rangers and possibly James Mangold’s The Wolverine 3, which is now bearing the simple yet effective title, Logan.

Underworld: Blood Wars will claw its way onto the big screen on January 6, 2017. Can it herald the beginning of a new era from Screen Gems’ cult action series? Time will tell.
