Chris O’Dowd Set To Woo Natalie Portman In Thor: The Dark World

Any details that have emerged from the set of Thor: The Dark World have been pretty normal by Marvel’s standards. We know the god of thunder will go up against Malekith The Accursed and we know that Alan Taylor’s sequel will focus on the galactic city of Asgard. However, in a recent interview with Indie Wire, Chris O’Dowd revealed that he will play a small part in the film – now there’s something nobody in the Nine Realms predicted.

Any details that have emerged from the set of Thor: The Dark World have been pretty normal by Marvel’s standards. We know the god of thunder will go up against Malekith The Accursed and we know that Alan Taylor’s sequel will focus on the galactic city of Asgard. However, in a recent interview, Chris O’Dowd revealed that he will play a small part in the film – now there’s something nobody in the Nine Realms predicted.

Here’s what the Bridesmaids’ star had to say:

“Actually, you know what I’ve done, just for fun because I didn’t think there was any way that I could be in a superhero movie, so I’ve done a scene in the new Thor movie, just for that. I just do like one scene, which was quite fun.”

While O’Dowd’s role has been confirmed as merely a cameo, the fact that the Irish actor has been cast to play a love interest to Portman’s Jane Foster poses significant comedic potential. This is good news for O’Dowd’s admirers and, more importantly, the Marvel fanbase as it signals that Thor: The Dark World will maintain the fish-out-of-water tone which made the original so entertaining back in 2011.

The sequel will be released this November and looks set to focus on the titular god as Marvel initiates their second phase of blockbusting superheroes. The sequel to Thor will be directed by Alan Taylor – boasting directorial work on Game of Thrones on his résumé – with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba reprising their respective roles from the first film.

Thor: The Dark World will be released worldwide on November 8th

Until then, what’s your opinion on the casting of Chris O’Dowd? Will the humble Irish actor jar with the superhero milieu? Or will the star provide necessary comic relief?
