Chris Pratt Teases The Guardians’ Role In Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War looks as if it's going to be one of the biggest narrative plate-spinning exercises in blockbuster history. Intended to tie together the entirety of the cinematic side of the MCU (though it'll no doubt impact upon the TV shows, too), the film will have to juggle the conclusions of the various Avengers' plotlines, but also squeeze in an appearance from every member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, not to mention properly introducing Josh Brolin's villainous Thanos after so much build-up.

Keen to find out whether the addition of the Guardians might be a superhero team too far, /Film reports that it spoke to Chris Pratt during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 junket in West Hollywood. While there, they asked whether it was strange to play Peter Quill in a film not written by James Gunn, to which Pratt explains that he always makes the role his own – so while he and Gunn share similar sensibilities, he doesn’t see a problem.

He goes on to explain that:

I just heard some news from this marketing guy who’s seen some stuff cut together from Infinity War and he’s over the fucking moon. He says our shit is – he’s so pumped about it. We are not small parts, but we’re supporting … We have great stuff that we’re doing in it. It’s really fun. It’s very, very Guardians. It’s our tone, it’s our voices. And I felt like on the day, although it was the Russo brothers directing, James is executive producing.”

This’ll be music to the ears of Guardians of the Galaxy fans, who could be quite rightly worried that their favorite characters will be drowned out in the apocalyptic events of Infinity War. Pratt goes on to explain that he felt a bit of responsibility to take care of the Guardians on set: “we had all hands on deck just to make it awesome.”

It remains to be seen whether the Russo Brothers can pull this off. If they succeed, it’ll be like mainlinining pure superhero – damn near every costume you can imagine hurling themselves into a titanic battle royal with the fate of the universe at stake. Get it wrong and it’ll be a confusing, over-packed mess whose need to fit everyone in means no particular story is focused on. One way or another, all will be revealed when Avengers: Infinity War is released on May 4th, 2018.
