Hot on the heels (flame on!) of yesterday’s poster, which brought the film’s superhero ensemble together, Fox has debuted a collection of stills for Fantastic Four that shift the focus to the team’s individual talents, alongside their chief antagonist, Toby Kebbell’s Doctor Doom.
Up until the recent release of the reboot’s second trailer – where he appeared in a single, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot – the villain has remained rooted in the shadows hitherto; nevertheless, these latest screen grabs allow fans to go up close and personal with all of the flick’s leading cast members.
For the uninitiated, Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four retelling will act as a hard reset, jettisoning Marvel’s First Family back to their otherworldly origins. Using Ultimate Fantastic Four as the key narrative arc, come August, Reed Richards and his eclectic group will be sent through time and space on a mission to uncover answers to the world’s most pressing problems.
It’s an approach that is rooted in science theory, and the footage released thus far teases a much more serious approach to the comic book lore. Mind you, whether Trank’s modern-day twist can escape the shadow of Fox’s previous cinematic takes on the IP will ultimately be decided in August.
Miles Teller, Kata Mara, Michael B. Jordon and Jamie Bell will unite as the Fantastic Four when Josh Trank’s reboot lands in theaters on August 7.
