There has been some fear among fans that Marc Webb is overloading The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with villains. There’s Electro and Rhino for sure, plus Norman Osborn who at any point may morph into his Green Goblin alter-ego. Then there’s Colm Feore’s mystery character who still hadn’t been named… until today.
Before I reveal who he is, if you don’t want spoilers for the movie, then turn back now.
Still here? Good. The folks over at Comic Book Movie claim to have confirmed what many have expected from the start: Feore will be playing Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture. Not only is his character confirmed, but there’s also word that he’ll be teaming up with Electro, Rhino, and the Green Goblin to make up the first four members of the Sinister Six.
The other two members of Webb’s iteration of the Sinister Six are still unknown, but the Lizard is still in the picture. Assuming he does indeed come back, and Webb continues pulling from the Ultimate universe, we could see Sandman, Doc Ock, or Kraven the Hunter as the last member. But that’s speculation for another day.
Any Spidey movie with more than one villain is going to conjure up bad memories of Spider-Man 3, but with how great a job Webb did on The Amazing Spider-Man, I trust he knows what he’s doing. A Sinister Six showdown in TASM3 will be awesome, but the only hesitation I have is whether this will rush that storyline. The Sinister Six is formed out of the individual villains failing against Spidey time and time again. Their hatred is fueled by their failures, and ultimately that’s what makes them willing to band together. I’m not sure we have time for that in only one more film. But again, I trust Webb, and I’m excited to see what he has planned.
