In a recent interview with Collider, conducted last year during production of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, actor Dominic Cooper touched upon a possible return to Captain America 2, where he would reprise his role as Howard Stark.
Apparently, the actor isn’t sure whether there will be a part for him in the sequel, he has yet to hear from Marvel. Check out what he had to say below.
“I just don’t know. . . That one probably, because I’m the father, the next one I imagine will come later. But you never know, anything can happen to any of the characters at any time. They’re like the comics. But I don’t know. They’re incredible projects. And I didn’t really grow up with the comics, but I had friends that were, and now I can sort of see the pleasures of them and how creative they are.
When you work with people who are so passionate about their product it’s kinda inspiring. They start rambling on to you about, “Oh, you know, when you’re character in comic book 42, the emperor turns—” and you just sit there nodding your head. But you’re amazing by their excitement, and it’s totally inspiring, although deeply worrying because you know you have a lot of people who have very, very clear views and ideas on how they perceive the characters.”
It’s already been confirmed that there will be flashbacks in the sequel and I for one would be happy to see Dominic Cooper return. His portrayal of Howard Stark was charismatic and enjoyable. Seeing him back again with Chris Evans would be great and I don’t think any fans would object to having him in the sequel, am I right?
Not much is known about Captain America 2 except that Samuel Jackson will return as Nick Fury and it will mostly be set in the present day. Anthony and Joe Russo of Community fame will be in the director’s chairs but aside from that, we don’t know much else about the film.
Captain America 2 will release after both Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 as part of ‘phase 2’ of The Avengers, on April 4, 2014.
