Fifty Shades Of Grey Teaser Unveiled Ahead Of Trailer Premiere

Alas, the days when cinema buffs got amped up for movies by watching full-length trailers are behind us. Now, the studios wheel out trailers for the trailers, call them "teasers" and trick the general public into watching them without actually giving away any footage from the movie. Bigger box office prospects are more prone to this strategy than smaller films, which is why I'm not surprised to see that book adaptation Fifty Shades of Grey is already attempting to hold our attention ahead of the premiere of its first actual trailer.

Alas, the days when cinema buffs got amped up for movies by watching full-length trailers are behind us. Now, the studios wheel out trailers for the trailers, call them “teasers” and trick the general public into watching them without actually giving away any footage from the film. Bigger box office prospects are more prone to this strategy than smaller flicks, which is why I’m not surprised to see that erotica adaptation Fifty Shades of Grey is one of the titles attempting to grab our attention ahead of the premiere of its first actual trailer.

A teaser for the preview, which drops Thursday, comes to us courtesy of Beyoncé, of all people. You’ve got to hand it to the marketing department for landing possibly the most widely beloved singer in the world to advertise Fifty Shades of Grey (which didn’t exactly need more publicity anyway, but oh well). There’s not much by way of actual footage in the clip, though fans of the book may get more out of it than this thoroughly disinterested writer.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey stars Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Marcia Gay Harden, Max Martini, Eloise Mumford, Dylan Neal, Rita Ora, Victor Rasuk, and Callum Keith Rennie. It arrives in theaters February 13th, 2015.

Fifty Shades of Grey is the hotly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling book that has become a global phenomenon. Since its release, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has been translated into 51 languages worldwide and sold more than 100 million copies in e-book and print—making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever.

Stepping into the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, who have become iconic to millions of readers, are Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.

Joining Dornan and Johnson in the cast are Luke Grimes as Elliot, Christian’s brother; Victor Rasuk as José, Anastasia’s close friend; Eloise Mumford as Kate, Anastasia’s best friend and roommate; Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Christian’s mother; Rita Ora as Mia, Christian’s sister; Max Martini as Taylor, Christian’s bodyguard; Callum Keith Rennie as Ray, Anastasia’s stepfather; Jennifer Ehle as Carla, Anastasia’s mother; and Dylan Neal as Bob, Carla’s husband.

Fifty Shades of Grey is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti alongside E L James, the creator of the series. The screenplay for the film is by Kelly Marcel.
