Fox Is Still Working On That Silver Surfer Movie Despite Pending Disney Merger

Despite the fact that they may soon be merging with Disney, Fox is still working on a Silver Surfer movie, according to MCU Cosmic.

Of all the many, many characters that featured in Avengers: Infinity War, there were one or two notable omissions that left viewers scratching their heads in disbelief.

Hawkeye is the big one, obviously, given that Clint Barton was originally part of the ensemble that battled the Chitauri (and Ultron!) throughout Avengers 1 and 2. But after the calamitous events of Captain America: Civil War, Jeremy Renner’s sharpshooter fell off the radar, where he was apparently placed on house arrest – same goes for Scott Lang, who’ll be back on our screens later this summer thanks to the release of Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp.

But there’s another character who was once tipped to appear in Avengers: Infinity War as well. His name? Norrin Radd (AKA Silver Surfer), the cosmic entity who was rumored to show up in the event movie thanks to a deal Kevin Feige and co. had made with Fox. Turns out that was all hogwash, as no such deal was ever even discussed. But that doesn’t mean we can’t look forward to seeing the fan favorite on our screens in the near future.

A while back, we heard that Fox was looking to bring us a Silver Surfer solo movie, and apparently, that’s still the plan – even despite the pending Disney merger. That’s according to MCU Cosmic, who report that the project is still in place and moving forward, with the acquisition only “pushing Fox to put as many movies in production as they can before it closes next summer.”

Details beyond that are scarce, and of course, there’s every chance the film may not end up being made, but it’s good to know that at least Fox still hopes to get it off the ground. After all, Silver Surfer – who was originally created by Jack Kirby, with Stan Lee helping to develop him – could really use a redo. As you’ll no doubt remember, Doug Jones played him in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, a wholly forgettable affair that didn’t do the character justice.

Either way – be it via Fox’s project or once Marvel finally gets a hold of him after the deal goes through – it’s all but certain that Norrin Radd will get another chance at a big screen outing, and we can only hope that the next time we see the Silver Surfer in cinemas, he’s brought to life a lot more memorably than before.
