For a while now, we’ve been hearing that The Wolverine 3 would adapt the famous “Old Man Logan” storyline from the comics. To do this, however, the film would likely need to go for an R-rating, and up until recently, it didn’t seem like Fox was willing to take that risk.

Once Deadpool started crushing box office records though, reports started to emerge that the studio may indeed take a gamble, and now, several days after the latest rumor regarding an R-rating surfaced, we have official confirmation from THR.

The outlet reports that due to a very violent script from Michael Green, The Wolverine 3 is targeting an R-rating. Apparently, the success of Deadpool wasn’t the main factor in deciding to go restricted, but you have to believe that the Merc with a Mouth’s solo film helped push Fox execs into finally giving the green light for an R-rating.

Whatever made the studio decide to finally go ahead with it, we’re incredibly happy to hear that for Hugh Jackman’s final outing as Logan, we’ll finally be getting the Wolvie film that we’ve always wanted. A bloody, violent outing for everyone’s favorite X-Men is precisely what fans need now in a post-Deadpool world, and it looks like that’s exactly what they’re going to get.

The Wolverine 3 is slated for release on March 3rd, 2017. We’ve already given you our thoughts on how Fox can turn the film into a hit, and now we want to hear what you think. Sound off in the comments section below and tell us what you want to see from the threequel!
