According to Showbiz Spy, franchise star Johnny Depp wants English actor/comedian Russell Brand to join him in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 5. With the success of the latest film, another two installments in the series is pretty much a certainty and sources indicate that Disney is also keen on adding Brand to the cast.

“The idea is to give Jack a new sidekick — someone who will bring out a new side to the character. This will also be a massive opportunity for Russell and establish him among the Hollywood A-list.”

However, similar rumors have surfaced before. During the development of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Brand was rumored to play the part of Captain Jack Sparrow’s brother in the film. Ultimately nothing came of this but it seems that rumors of the actor’s involvement have surfaced again.

I’ll admit I was pretty surprised when Brand didn’t so much as get a cameo in the last film. Rumors were circulating pretty heavily during its development and usually when there are enough rumors something tends to come of it. Now, the same one is cropping up again and I can only suggest to take this with a grain of salt.

What do you think? Would you want Depp and Brand together on the big screen?
