TheWrap is reporting tonight that Fury star Jon Bernthal is in talks to join Ben Affleck in Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant, an upcoming thriller that’s currently set up over at Warner Bros. The film will act as Affleck’s next project once he wraps on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and will see the actor playing a “mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as a deadly assassin.”

Also in talks for The Accountant are J.K. Simmons, who is eyeing a supporting role, and Anna Kendrick, who may take the female lead. No word yet on who Bernthal is looking to play, but I’m betting it will be the villain/antagonist.

Over the past couple of years, the former Walking Dead star has seen his fame rise considerably. After taking the lead in Frank Darabont’s TV series Mob City, he had a great supporting role in The Wolf of Wall Street. More recently, he appeared in David Ayer’s Fury and just wrapped We Are Your Friends for Warner Bros. A role opposite Affleck in The Accountant would be a great move for the rising star, as this is a flick that’s sure to draw a lot of attention once it’s released.

Production on The Accountant will get underway in January. With a 2011 Black List script from Bill Dubuque, and an extremely talented crop of individuals both in front and behind the camera, this is definitely one film to keep an eye out for.
