Kevin Costner To Join Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino knows how to cast films, and he is assembling one of his finest ensembles yet for his upcoming Spaghetti Western Django Unchained. Among Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio we will most likely also see Kevin Costner. Costner will apparently play Ace Woody, an accomplice of Calvin Candie who runs a slave plantation. Woody is the trainer of the fighting slaves who are used to entertain the customers of Candie.

Quentin Tarantino knows how to cast films, and he is assembling one of his finest ensembles yet for his upcoming Spaghetti Western Django Unchained. Among Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Woody is the trainer of the fighting slaves who are used to entertain the customers of Candie.

Woody is by all accounts a salacious man, a man not afraid to kill slaves on a whim and someone not entirely different from Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds. Costner and DiCaprio are both making bold career moves here, both are playing villainous and violent roles which contradict their personas of the sturdy heroes and in the latter half of Costner’s career, father figure. Costner hasn’t had his name to a really impressive high profile part for a while despite having massive success in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Could this be the career revival that Tarantino also gave to John Travolta? It’s possible considering how diverse the role is from Costner’s previous work. He will join Foxx, Waltz, DiCaprio and Jackson to shoot Django Unchained toward the end of the year, after completing work on Man of Steel. The film has a Christmas Day release date.
