Are Kryptonite And Zod’s Body In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice?

When Man of Steel rebooted the Superman franchise for a new generation last year, two important and iconic elements of the mythology were noticeably left out: Kryptonite and Lex Luthor. Lex's presence was definitely felt, thanks to a few little Lexcorp Easter eggs, but for the most part his involvement was saved for the sequel. Jesse Eisenberg will play Superman's nemesis in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and if a new report is to be believed, he'll be bringing Kryptonite with him.

When Man of Steel rebooted the Superman franchise for a new generation last year, two important and iconic elements of the mythology were noticeably left out: Kryptonite and Lex Luthor. Lex’s presence was definitely felt, thanks to a few little Lexcorp Easter eggs, but for the most part his involvement was saved for the sequel. Jesse Eisenberg will play Superman’s nemesis in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and if a new report is to be believed, he’ll be bringing Kryptonite with him.

Geek Tyrant recently received a tip from an extra who was supposedly working on the Detroit set of the film for ten days. While he was there, he picked up a few key pieces of information that piqued our interest.

First and foremost, he claims that the film actually begins during the climactic battle in Man of Steel, in which Superman and Zod engage in fisticuffs around the streets and skies of Metropolis. That would certainly explain the massive debris that we saw in recent leaked set photos. He also claims that Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne was present during the big battle and is frantically trying to make his way to the Wayne Tower in Metropolis. This also jives well with a set report we received last week, which detailed scenes of Affleck saving citizens in the wake of the collapse of the Wayne Financial building.

Finally, the extra claims that the ending to the film has already been shot. One scene features Batman breaking into Lexcorp to steal Kryptonite, and shows that Lex has somehow gotten his hands on General Zod’s body.

Of course, none of this is confirmed at the moment, so take this news with a massive grain of salt. Badass Digest’s Devin Faraci did give the website his support though, saying on Twitter that “Geek Tyrant are completely correct with their BvS scoop.” Faraci recently provided us with his own detailed information about the film (which is also unconfirmed), so there’s a good chance that there is some validity to this news.

If it is true, it raises some interesting questions. First of all, how does Batman know that Lexcorp houses Kryptonite? Does Lex create Superman’s weakness himself, possibly with Bruce Wayne’s help? Or is it something he discovered after getting a hold of Zod’s body?

It makes sense that Lex would try to get his hands on Zod’s body to likely experiment on it and attempt to harness whatever power or technology that the Kryptonian left behind. Many have theorized that he’ll use Zod’s spacesuit as the basis for his own iconic battle suit in future films, so perhaps he creates Kryptonite the same way. Or it’s possible that debris from Zod’s ships are radioactive, and therefore act similarly to Kryptonite when Superman comes in contact with them.

Unfortunately, we may not know the answers to these questions for quite some time. However, these rumors are rooted more in fact than in rampant speculation, unlike many of the things we’ve heard about this film over the course of the last year.

Tell us, what do you think of these rumors? Would you be interested in seeing Lexcorp get its hands on Kryptonite and Zod’s body? How do you think those plot devices will come into play in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
