New Ghost In The Shell Poster Reminds Us Not To Mess With The Major

With its release just over a month away now, Paramount has really begun to kick the marketing campaign for Rupert Sanders' Ghost in the Shell into high gear, delivering some very interesting and exciting pieces of promotional material along the way. Though the film was once mired in controversy with many fans citing whitewashing as a serious issue - given the casting of Scarlett Johansson in the lead role - the tides have since turned and at present, most seem to be on board with it.

From what we’ve seen so far, the adaptation looks like a slick, sexy thriller, one that oozes style and flair. There’s a lot riding on it, to be sure, namely the fate of several other anime adaptations all waiting in the wings (like Akira), but all signs point to Ghost in the Shell delivering on the huge expectations being placed upon it. The box office numbers will have the final say, of course, but at this point, we’re feeling pretty confident about Paramount’s upcoming blockbuster.

Today, a brand new poster has debuted online that hopes to get audiences into IMAX theaters. Not that the film should have any trouble doing that, mind you, as its dazzling visuals just beg to be seen on the biggest screen possible, but this beautiful new one sheet hopes to drive that point home even further. It also reminds us not to mess with The Major, as we see her taking down an enemy who’s clearly underestimated her. The poster doesn’t reveal much more than that, but it’s a striking piece and one that certainly catches the eyes.

Ghost in the Shell slams into theaters, regular and IMAX, on March 31st. Aside from Johansson, it’ll star Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Juliette Binoche and more.
