This June, Wonder Woman will delve into the origins of Diana Prince as we finally learn more about the iconic superhero who had her big screen debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and will be seen again later this year in Justice League. We’ve already gotten a lot from film – some would say too much, in fact – but today, a new piece of concept art has been released and it depicts the character’s World War I exploits.
Apparently, the scene you’ll see below comes roughly halfway into Wonder Woman, as Diana steps out into the no-man’s-land between the English and German trenches. Asked about why the character takes it upon herself to intervene in the war, star Gal Gadot said the following:
“It’s a very powerful moment. We have a character committing to her true self, doing what she believes needs to be done.”
Though it doesn’t reveal a whole lot, this is definitely a powerful piece of imagery and if handled the right way, the scene could make for a pretty epic moment in the upcoming Patty Jenkins-directed film. Of course, war settings aren’t uncommon in the genre, as Captain America: The First Avenger was set in World War II, but the Great War is every bit as unique and interesting and hopefully Wonder Woman makes good use of it.
While the signs look promising, we’ll find out soon enough whether this is the DCEU’s first big win, as Diana Prince storms into theatres on June 2nd.
