Robert Downey Jr. Teases His Prep For Sherlock Holmes 3

Robert Downey Jr. might be most known as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he also plays another immortal hero in a different blockbuster movie franchise. We're, of course, talking about Sherlock Holmes, with Downey first portraying the Great Detective in Guy Ritchie's 2009 effort. He reprised the part in 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and despite Sherlock Holmes 3 being on the cards ever since it has never materialized.

Robert Downey Jr. might be most known as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he also plays another immortal hero in a different blockbuster movie franchise. We’re obviously talking about Sherlock Holmes, with Downey first portraying the Great Detective in Guy Ritchie’s 2009 effort. He reprised the part in 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and, despite Sherlock Holmes 3 being on the cards ever since, a third film has yet to materialize.

Things have finally started moving on the threequel this year, though, with reports saying Downey. Jr will reunite with his Dr. Watson, Jude Law, and Richie when the production goes in front of cameras in 2019. But it seems that the Avengers: Infinity War star is already psyching himself up to don the deerstalker hat once again, as Downey shared a teasing tweet today.

Along with a GIF of his Holmes pulling his best “I’m currently deducing things” expression, the actor wrote: “Practicing my Sherlock face.”

Both previous films in the Sherlock Holmes series grossed over $500 million worldwide, so it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. has ordered a third one, even if they’ve had to wait for a long while for the ridiculously in-demand cast and director to find the time to make it. Beyond the three individuals mentioned above, we don’t yet know who else will be involved in the threequel, but you can bet the studio will be bringing in some high profile talent.

Earlier this year, WB announced that Sherlock Holmes 3 was officially set for release on Christmas Day 2020. That seems like a long time away right now, but fans of Downey Jr., Law and Ritchie have got plenty to look forward to in the shape of Avengers 4, Captain Marvel and Aladdin in the meantime. Not to mention that at long last, we can now say that the game is once again afoot.
