Adrian Noble will be directing the Broadway production of The King’s Speech, which will be based on last year’s Academy Award-winning film that chronicles the true story of King George VI’s quest to find his voice. Noble, who has directed such Broadway plays as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Herbal Bed and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is aiming to open his newest production sometime during Fall 2012.
Deadline is reporting that the Broadway production will be proceeded by a three-to-five week run at Guilford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theater in the U.K. in January 2012. The play will then move to London in March before it arrives in New York.
Michael Alden, one of the producers for the stage production of The King’s Speech, has said that none of the actors from the film are currently scheduled to appear in the play.
“We talked about it early on, but it wouldn’t serve them,” he said. “It’s always great to see what a new actor will bring to a role.”
Alden added that the stage version will provide an alternate presentation of King George’s story. It will delve more into the political backdrop of the time.
