With pulse rifle in hand, Katherine Waterston’s character fends off an off-screen nasty in the latest pic for Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott’s upcoming horror-thriller set to bring his prequel series closer to the original Alien lore.
One element that’s instrumental in such a creative process, according to reports, is Waterston’s Daniels, a passenger on board the Covenant ship who becomes embroiled in a desperate fight for survival once the shit hits the fan. The Xenomorphs are back, back, back, and below you’ll find Katherine Waterston channeling one Ellen Ripley as she prepares to open fire.
Indeed, if those rumors are on point, Alien: Covenant will introduce Waterston as Ripley’s mother, neatly dovetailing her arc with that of Scott’s 1979 classic. It’s a comparison that Waterston herself has addressed in the past – and one that she will likely be quizzed about right up until the film’s May release – but while chatting to USA Today, the so-hot-right-now actress cooled any speculation…for now.
“You don’t really know what you’re made of until you’re tested. They are both able to somehow think clearly in really shocking, unimaginable scenarios. It’s fun to play someone who can thrive in that chaos.”
While her on-screen character has no problem cutting any and all aliens to ribbons, Katherine Waterston admitted that she often gets squeamish when viewing the finished product.
“I’m very squeamish. I’ve seen these movies many times, but I feel like I’ve barely seen any of the alien scenes because my eyes are usually covered.”
Alien: Covenant is set to arrive on May 19, 2017 when Waterston will be joined by Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, two Michael Fassbenders and James Franco in the role of Branson, Daniels’ significant other.
