Deadline is reporting today that rapper-actor Tip “T.I.” Harris will be joining Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in Warner Bros.’ upcoming comedy, Get Hard. Directed by Etan Cohen, the Gary Sanchez-produced film will see T.I. playing a man named Joaquin, who is described as “Hart’s streetwise cousin who helps Hart prep Ferrell’s millionaire fraudster for prison.”

Despite being primarily known as a Grammy-nominated rapper, Harris has been slowly but surely building a steady resume of acting credits. His first big role came in the heist thriller Takers, which is actually a guilty pleasure of mine. Since then, he’s shown up in Universal’s Identity Thief and had successful guest star stints on critically acclaimed television shows like House of Lies and Boss. He may not find himself up for an Oscar anytime soon, but T.I. is a likeable and charismatic screen presence and should fit into the cast of Get Hard quite nicely.

For those who haven’t been keeping up, the film will follow a wealthy investment banker, played by Ferrell, who is wrongfully convicted of a crime and sentenced to prison. In order to “toughen up” before he’s locked away, he enlists the help of the man who washes his car, played by Hart.

It sounds like a bit of a silly premise, but Ferrell and Hart are both excellent comedic talents and together, their chemistry and humor should make for some very funny moments, even if the film itself doesn’t hold up. Although, with Cohen behind the camera, having penned the hilarious Tropic Thunder, I’m confident that the end result will please comedy fans.

Get Hard will open on March 27th, 2015. Let us know if you’re excited to see T.I. snagging another film role by leaving a comment below
