Descending into Earth’s orbit a full twenty years after the War of 1996, Roland Emmerich’s long-in-development sequel opens with the extra-terrestrials waging war on our planet, armed to the teeth with weapons and technology that far surpass our own – and that’s including the alien tech leftover from ’96 that facilitated the creation of the Earth Space Defence (ESD).

Among the crack team of soldiers and scientists dispatched to Earth’s newfound moon base are Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum’s characters, but the big takeaway from today’s all-new snippet involves a close encounter of a new kind.

Confronting the alien menace in a glass-wall chamber, this time it’s the returning Bill Pullman that finds himself at the mercy of those pesky tentacles, before relaying an ominous message from the alien hive mind, “she is coming.” Exactly what ‘she’ is remains to be seen, but it can’t be anything good for our band of heroes.

Look for those monolithic saucers to begin looming over theaters when Independence Day: Resurgence lands on June 24, 2016. Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward also star.

Twenty years after the War of 1996, the international community recovers and the United Nations creates the Earth Space Defense (ESD), a united global defense program that serves as Earth’s early warning system and the main defense force using technology salvaged from remains of the alien forces, with some military forces assembled on the Moon. However, the aliens were able to send a distress signal before their final defeat while others went into hiding elsewhere around the world. The aliens in deep space receive the signal and sends a larger and a more powerful battle fleet than the previous ones, threatening the human race once more.
