Cat teeters the line between strong and weak a lot of the time. It’s not unreasonable to protect the people you care about, but Cat does so at her own expense. She overlooks her morals and as a result is in a constant state of internal turmoil over her actions. At least this season she and Tess (Nina Lisandrello) are on the same side which gives her someone to bounce her ideas and feelings off of, and Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) really has become a welcome member of her support team – which given the constant stress her life has become, she needs on a full-time basis.
When Cat ended up in the cell with Tori, an unstable situation she masterly manipulated to her benefit, I could hear the hallelujah chorus. I know that she was only trading insults for the purpose of bringing out Tori’s beast side, but that must have been therapeutic to finally release some of the tension that has been building up since she caught Tori kissing Vincent at Thanksgiving – and it’s not like Tori didn’t have it coming. I only wish that Cat could have really let loose without having to be worried about a pesky thing like being torn apart. Too bad they lost the gem, otherwise that hope might be more likely to happen.
Moving forward, Cat and Vincent both have some unresolved issues that they’re going to have to work out. Until then, at least for now they’ve managed to find some equal ground to stand on.
