Now that CBS has found Melissa Benoist to take the title role of the upcoming Supergirl TV series, it’s time to start filling in the rest of the cast. The first new addition comes in the form of a staple character from the Superman mythos: Jimmy Olsen.
Back when the show was first announced, we heard that the iconic Daily Planet photographer would be a part of the cast, and now it’s been made official. According to EW, Necessary Roughness and True Blood actor Mehcad Brooks has landed the role, which comes with a few minor changes to the familiar source material.
Olsen will be swapping out his Daily Planet press pass for one at CatCo, the company that Kara Zor-El, Supergirl herself, works for. He’ll also go by James instead of Jimmy, and has “recently been living and working in National City, though the reason is still a secret” He’ll also likely be a love interest for Kara.
Developed for TV by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, Supergirl has a pilot commitment at CBS. If it gets picked up for series, it will likely air this fall.
