There’s a distinct sense on Sons of Anarchy of everything slowly crashing down around SAMCRO. In the past, even though fans couldn’t always see a way out, the writers have always concocted an elaborate solution. However, the situation has never been quite so dire. Losing Bobby represents an ultimate low for Jax and the club. He was the final link to the original members of SAMCRO. Piney is gone. Clay is gone. The old heads have all been dispensed with, and for the first time, Jax is standing on his own in a new way. And, Marks isn’t the only one trying to pull the rug out from under him.
Gemma has set the stage for a war between everyone. The worst part of it may be that the internal conflict is only just starting. Sons of Anarchy is literally unraveling from the inside. There has never been fewer men in Redwood, and with Jax’s recent wish-washy track record, it wouldn’t be surprising if he takes quite a bit of heat from members of other charters for what happened with Jury. Plus, Jury’s guilt or innocence hasn’t exactly been proven. It was easy to tack the title of rat on him before his final scene, but now it’s far less certain. Which is predictably what Sutter would have been hoping for.
Kurt Sutter made it clear before this season even started that no one was safe, but that doesn’t lessen the blow. It’s been a hell of a ride with Bobby at the wheel over the last six and a half seasons, but watching him go out with his loyalty still fully in tact was a huge win for fans of Sons of Anarchy. Even missing an eye and most of his left hand, Bobby didn’t break character once. He was a soldier the entire time, and it was a compelling story arc to watch all the way through. If Jax needed a reason to fight with all his wits, Marks just gave him the ultimate one.
Sons of Anarchy may stumble the last few episode toward the finish line, but you won’t want to miss watching SAMCRO fall and pick themselves back up one last time.
