Jon Favreau Passes On Iron Man 3

Due to disagreements with Marvel in regards to salary and creative control, director Jon Favreau will not be returning to direct Iron Man 3. Apparently, Favreau wanted too much money to direct the film and Marvel wouldn't give in. Sources say that the studio has already begun their search for a replacement. So what does this mean for the film? Well if Marvel is looking for a new director, who would be cheaper than Favreau, does that mean they're looking for someone who maybe doesn't have as much experience as Favreau? Or someone not as talented as Favreau? I hope Marvel doesn't hire some hack director just so they can save some money. Iron Man 2 wasn't great and I was really hoping Favreau would turn it around for Iron Man 3.

So what does this mean for the film? Well if Marvel is looking for a new director, who would be cheaper than Favreau, does that mean they’re looking for someone who maybe doesn’t have as much experience as Favreau? Or someone not as talented as Favreau?

I hope Marvel doesn’t hire some hack director just so they can save some money. Iron Man 2 wasn’t great and I was really hoping Favreau would turn it around for Iron Man 3. I think a lot of people saw this coming though, especially after a recent interview where Favreau said the following:

Kevin Feige, who’s been involved with superhero movies with Marvel movies since the X-Men films, is very aware of his path and how to weave [things together], so in theory, ‘Iron Man 3? is going to be a sequel or continuation of ‘Thor,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Captain America’ and ‘Avengers’… This whole world… I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.

He doesn’t seem too impressed with what they’re doing over at Marvel. And I’m not too sure I am either. They’re trying to make all these films weave in and tie in to each other and I think it’s going to turn out to just be a big mess.

Sources are also saying that Marvel presented a very packed and complex vision for Iron Man 3 and that is what finally made Favreau pass on the film.

While I’m sad to see Favreau go, it’ll be interesting to see who takes on the directing job for Iron Man 3.
