Who Plays Angel In Pose?

Angel Evangelista is one of Pose's most iconic characters. Here's who plays her.

The critically acclaimed Pose has finally drawn to a close. Since its debut in 2018, FX’s TV series received popular recognition for its large cast of transgender people of color in historically accurate lead roles.

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals, Pose depicts New York City’s ballroom scene during the AIDS Crisis of the 1980s and ’90s. The series’ three seasons aired from June 2018 to June 2021, all while amassing a number of Golden Globe Awards and Emmys.

Pose cast a record number of Black and Brown trans people in a scripted series, a rarity for mainstream television. Among this group is Angel Evangelista’s celebrity actor, who skyrocketed to fame and social media popularity after their emergence in the series.

Who plays Angel in Pose? Read on for all we know.

Angel’s Actor

Angel is played by trans and non-binary actor Indya Moore. Moore uses they/them and she/her pronouns.

Hailing from the Bronx, Moore is of Haitian, Dominican, and Puerto Rican descent. She is also a model, having begun working for brands like Dior and Gucci at age 15 after she ran away from home and dropped out of high school. Today, Moore has continued their modelling career alongside acting, appearing in 2019’s Steven Universe Future and starring in the upcoming TV fantasy horror anthology series Magic Hour.

When Angel Evangelista’s story begins, she is one of many trans sex workers making a precarious living in the city, where she gets involved in a romantic affair with her sex working client Stan Bowes. Pose follows Angel’s story as she grows into her own, both professionally as a model, but also romantically and personally.

“Angel has a very genuine relationship to her own identity. She doesn’t have a concept of hiding who she is or feeling like she has to be secretive about it,” Moore said of their character in Variety. “So she told [Stan’s wife] Patty why she was at the ball and says, ‘I’m a transsexual.’ I think that was also a really incredible moment because Angel said it so nonchalantly and so boldly and so. ‘This is who I am and that’s just what it is.’”
