The cast of Iron Man 3 might get some international talent with the addition of Andy Lau. Reports are circulating that tell us Lau (Internal Affairs, House of Flying Daggers) is in talks with Marvel Studios to join the already star-studded cast.

The third installment of the Iron Man franchise will film partially in China, so it makes sense that they would reach out to an Asian actor of Lau’s caliber. Production is also being supported by some pretty substantial Chinese investors.

Twitch reports that Walt Disney China and DMG Entertainment are already attached to the project. Then again, Disney owns Marvel, so its involvement is to be expected.

If he signs on, Lau will play the role of a scientist fighting on Tony Stark’s side. His character will help develop new technology that Iron Man can use against terrorists. He won’t be the only scientist added to this round of super hero mayhem as Jessica Chastain was recently offered the role of  a scientist as well. Though the character wasn’t named, it’s expected that she’ll play Maya Hansen.

Along with Lau and Chastain, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley are also joining the cast. Pierce will be playing Aldrich Killain, a geneticist who is in bed with some shady characters and Kingsley rounds out the cast as a villain who plans on terrorizing the population using nanobot technology.

Filming is scheduled to begin next month and I think Lau would be a great casting choice. Besides being an obvious asset in the Chinese market, Lau would add significantly to the dynamic of the cast and it would be great to see international talent of his caliber appear in the film.

Iron Man 3 is set to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
