This February it was announced that Joel Edgerton and Jessica Chastain had signed on to star in two separate but connecting films, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers, which are both set to be directed by Ned Benson. Today, however, Deadline reports that James McAvoy will be replacing Edgerton in both of the films.
For those unfamiliar with the project, the two movies follow the “love story between a New York City couple during a difficult time in their marriage, from the different perspective of the husband, a restaurant owner, and of the wife, who goes back to college.”
The films are described as being stand alone films, each from the respective view of one of the two main characters. However, when combined, they give a “more complete look at these characters and their lives.” Chastain will of course be playing the titular Eleanor while McAvoy will take on her husband Conor.
I find the concept of the film’s incredibly intriguing and it will be very interesting to see how they are marketed and released. Replacing Edgerton with McAvoy is an usual choice but one that I believe will work well. McAvoy has a great acting background in both film and theatre and it will be very interesting to see him and Chastain on-screen together as well as the dynamic they create with what will surely be an interesting couple.
