Is Prometheus The Start Of A Trilogy?

What is Prometheus? That's the question that's been on everyone's mind for some time now. Is it a prequel? A sequel? A spin-off? How does it relate to Alien? Through recent marketing efforts and interviews with director Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof, we're starting to get a clearer picture of what to expect. Though much is still up in the air, if you've been keeping up with the film and it's production, you should have a pretty good idea of what you're getting yourself into.

What is Prometheus? That’s the question that’s been on everyone’s mind for some time now. Is it a prequel? A sequel? A spin-off? How does it relate to Alien?

Through recent marketing efforts and interviews with director Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof, we’re starting to get a clearer picture of what to expect. Though much is still up in the air, if you’ve been keeping up with the film and it’s production, you should have a pretty good idea of what you’re getting yourself into.

Furthermore, if you’re up to date on all things Prometheus, you’ll know that Scott wants to make a sequel granted the film does well, which it likely will. But, after speaking to a source with close ties to FOX, we’ve uncovered some information that leads us to believe that the studio has big plans for Prometheus, plans that go further than just a sequel.

While speaking to our source, who prefers to be unnamed for obvious reasons, we asked him how the studio was expecting Prometheus to do once it’s released.

“We’re all really excited for it and I hope the film does well. It’s an excellent piece of work, Ridley [Scott] really did some amazing things with it. He has a lot more from that universe to show off as well, so if the film is a success, audiences can expect more.”

Of course, this piqued our interest so we pushed him further. When we asked what he meant by “expect more,” he replied with the following.

“Don’t push your luck,” he said chuckling. “All I can tell you right now is that the Prometheus universe doesn’t have to end after the first film, or the second film for that matter. There’s a lot of great material that Damon and Ridley have come up with and you may be surprised at what you see.”

So, what does this mean? Well, presumably, Prometheus could turn out to be a trilogy, or perhaps a series, or perhaps something entirely different. There’s no telling what it means to be honest. In fact, there’s no telling if it’s true either, seeing as it comes from a source and it hasn’t been officially confirmed by the studio. Perhaps our source is just playing with us, or has his facts mixed up?

Either way, it’s interesting to hear and hopefully, Prometheus does do well because I for one would love to see Ridley Scott do more work in the sci-fi realm, especially if it relates to his classic film Alien.
