Debuting one week ahead of its North American release, Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror-thriller Prometheus is already smashing records in Scott’s native UK, where presales are besting the huge levels of blockbusters Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.

THR is reporting that in just one theater (BFI’s IMAX) Prometheus has already sold 30,000 tickets, which equates to over $700,000 – pretty impressive for just one location. At the beginning of May, the theater had already experienced its highest grossing week ever, and sales continue to grow.

The buzz for this epic film set in the Alien universe is huge right now and it’s becoming clear that interest is not just contained to North America. If the reviews are positive and it can overcome its R-rating, Prometheus could be poised to become one of the year’s biggest global blockbusters.

Following a group of astronauts who set off to explore an alien planet, Prometheus stars Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Noomi Rapace and Idris Elba and will touch down Stateside June 8 in 2D, 3D and IMAX.
