This Is What David Said To The Engineer In Prometheus

Remember near the end of Prometheus when David goes to talk to the Engineer and he says something in a different language? Well, if you're like me, you probably expected to get a translation of that line at some point later on in the film. After all, it's a pretty crucial scene. As you know though, Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof decided not to reveal what David said and left us all hanging, until now that is.

Remember near the end of Prometheus when David goes to talk to the Engineer and he says something in a different language? Well, if you’re like me, you probably expected to get a translation of that line at some point later on in the film. After all, it’s a pretty pivotal scene. As you know though, Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof decided not to reveal what David said and they left us all hanging, until now that is.

Thanks to The Bioscopist, who did an interview with Dr. Anil Biltoo of the SOAS Language Centre in London, who served as the Linguist Teacher on Prometheus, we now know what David said and I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this but it’s exactly what everyone suspected. Are you ready for it? Here it is:

“This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life.”

Apparently, this was part of a larger conversation that was cut out of the film but as for that one line that had everyone guessing, that’s all it was. So, it makes you wonder, what made the Engineer so angry? Well, a lot of questions are still unanswered but presumably, the Engineer and his people had already decided to kill the humans and the fact that one of them (he likely assumed David was human) was waking him up from his nice long sleep, well, that just set him off.

Lindelof originally wanted subtitles on the scene but Ridley Scott cut them for the final version, which I think was a smart choice in the end. In fact, there is about 20-30 minutes of footage that was cut from the film but it is all said to be on the Blu-Ray/DVD, so don’t worry.

Anyways, there you have it, the mysterious line has been revealed.
