Emma Thomas Says Christopher Nolan Will Never Direct Another Batman Film

It seems that some people really just can't believe it's the end of the Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale Batman films. If you didn't believe it when the director himself said it the first time, then maybe you'll believe it now as The Dark Knight Rises producer Emma Thomas told SFX Magazine in an interview that she believes Nolan will never be persuaded to make another Batman film.

It seems that some people really just can’t believe it’s the end of the Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale Batman films. If you didn’t believe it when the director himself said it the first time, then maybe you’ll believe it now as The Dark Knight Rises producer Emma Thomas told SFX Magazine in an interview that she believes Nolan will never be persuaded to make another Batman film.

Even after saying, “No, never,” the magazine still pressed on:

“No, that’s truly a never. I cannot imagine a world in which he would ever want to come back. At a certain point it’s fun to go off and do something different, you know. We’ve spent almost 10 years of our lives making Batman films. He was very excited about this film, and the story that he’d come up with, but I just cannot imagine that he would get that excited about another version of the same thing. The great thing about a trilogy is that it feels like you’ve got a beginning, a middle and an end. It’s like an extended version of a regular film. Once you get into a fourth film then it’s just episodic, and I just can’t see him getting excited about making another film where basically you’re just wheeling in different villains.”

If you’re still not convinced after all this that The Dark Knight Rises is it, the end, no more — I might suggest therapy. If the man can’t make other projects (like Inception), it would be a travesty to waste such a brilliant mind.

But as we are seeing with his involvement in rebooting Superman with Man of Steelhowever, it would not be a shock for Nolan to return in a hands-off capacity, such as executive producing the next interpretation of the Caped Crusader.

So, no matter how much you kick and scream, Nolan will NOT return to the Batman universe.

The third and final installment of The Dark Knight trilogy is less than a month away and will release on July 20.
